At the moment, the only forms of online gambling that are entirely legal in New Zealand are Sports betting, betting on auto racing and online lottery.
In Australia and New Zealand there are clear laws and rules and sufficient opportunities for land-based casinos to operate legally. This does not apply to online casinos. These are prohibited in both countries and in Australia in particular, they also comply well with these rules. In New Zealand they are more of the well-known tolerance of online gambling at casino games from foreign providers. However, it does not look like online casinos will soon be able to establish themselves in either country.
The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), say, the New Zealand Ministry of the Interior, is mainly catching up on the point that the gambling law dates from 2003 and therefore urgently (although it is still not so bad compared to the Dutch gambling law) renewal is due. At present, the NZ TAB (for sports betting) and Lotto NZ, which are again managed by the New Zealand state, are the only entities that are allowed to offer a limited number of online gambling products. And that must change if it is up to the people involved. The referendum therefore picks up on three key points:
expanding the range of online gambling services from both Lotto NZ and NZ TAB. the ability to issue online gambling licenses to other domestic operators. possibly open the doors for any qualified provider, whether national or international, to offer online gambling services to New Zealand gamblers.
We try to never miss any NZ online casinos with exclusive bonus offers. We have good contacts and can give you a big signup deal that you can’t get anywhere else.
New Zealand online casinos have to accept local NZ players. Playing in New Zealand Dollars (NZD) can also save you currency conversion fees, so you can spend your hard-earned cash on more deposit bonuses.
Finally, all the Kiwi online casinos which make our shortlist must have security protocols of a high standard (for example, SSL encryption, etc). This ensures that users’ personal data, including financial information, is properly secured and protected. We also check how rigorous a gambling site is in its policies on underage and problem gambling.
